“Just had a wonderful 3 night stay at Bern and Nic's place. The cottage was everything hoped and more....clean, cosy, welcoming and full of everything we needed. We arrived in the dark and what a great surprise it was opening the curtains the following morning. We literally were in the middle of the countryside, surround by animals and fields for as far as the eye could see. After a day walking the log burner was lovely to come back to and curl up in front of, also very welcome when its pouring down with rain and you just want to relax in this lovely cottage. Our dog Jet had a blast in the fields and its safe today we will be back. Great hosts and beautiful place to stay. Thanks Nic and Bern "

“We really enjoyed our stay. We had an active holiday walking, running and cycling with plenty of great routes close by. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Bern and Nic were very accomodating. We really enjoyed meeting their animals and even fed their sheep! We would love to return in the future. "

“We had an amazing stay at Bern & Nicola's place - Couldn't have asked for better hosts or a more beautiful home! We arrived in a snowstorm that the weather forecast didn't predict, but Nicola was quickly in touch to make sure we knew the safest route across the countryside. The next morning we were greeted by stunning views and farm animals right outside the front door. We spent a long weekend exploring the area (we recommend the hike to Thor's Cave and the nearby town of Battenberg), returning each night to a cosy log fire and dinner cooked in the well-appointed kitchen. Bern & Nicola (and their adorable dog) were always on hand to make sure we had everything we needed. We very highly recommend this place to anyone looking to explore the Peak District. "

“With a deadline looming and Christmas fast approaching, I needed some peace and quiet, preferably with a beautiful view in a cosy little hideaway, to inspire me to write my chapter. Wayward cottage is well-equipped and was perfect in every way, from the twinkly fairly lights above the comfortable bed, to the kind and friendly hosts. I was lucky to experience the views in sunny weather (great spot to watch the sun rise and set, plus very dark skies which are perfect for star-gazing), I was also there during an icy storm where the wind howled wildly all day and night, but I was able to stay warm and toasty in front of the wood burner pretending I was Emily Brontë (with a lap top instead of a quill!) An extra bonus was looking out onto the horses and hearing Nic and Bern talk about the farm and the obvious Love they share for their animals and the surrounding countryside. The Shepherd Huts also look exciting for a bit of Glamping. Thank you so much for everything. Karen  "

“ Wonderful. We will be back!  This was a simply wonderful place to stay. The accommodation was excellent, beautiful setting and the welcome friendly and warm. The freshly-laid eggs were a great touch. Circumstances meant we couldn't take full advantage this time, but we will definitely be back. Oh...and we learned how to talk to horses! "

“ Wayward Cottage is not wayward at all! It is small but very orderly and clean with all the basics for any traveller. Thanks for having us Bern and Nic. "

“A lovely few days. The cottage and location were ideal and our hosts couldn't do enough for us.  The location was good. Ideal for walking. The Cottage was lovely. Very clean and cosy . Plenty of room although it was only for two people and and the views were fantastic. Our hosts were very friendly and were helpful in regarding places to eat, visit and walks etc. We had taken our dog with us and there was a field fenced off where you could exercise dogs without being worried about them running off. Thankyou for a lovely few days  "

“ Lovely quiet break in a beautiful farm cottage.  Nic & Bern were around to welcome me upon arrival. The cottage was beautiful and the kitchen was equipped with everything I needed to cook for myself in the evenings. I didn't try out the log burner but I imagine that would have made it even cosier. Wifi limit was plentiful for my usage. It's a good base for exploring Staffordshire/Derbyshire, and as a solo female traveller I felt safe. The nearest town was about a 20 minute drive away if I needed to go to a supermarket for supplies.   "

“ Absolutely delightful x  Tranquil setting, spacious cottage, seating area to the front and rear, both with stunning views, well equipped, good mobile signal (rare in this neck of the woods!) Helpful, welcoming hosts, just follow their directions then relax!  "

“Nic + Bern were perfect hosts. Its a lovely secluded area with fantastic views of the manifold valley. Their animals, horses sheep + chickens are all very friendly. All needs catered for in the cottage, we had a lovely time. The two dogs loved it too. (Garden is secure) would definitely recommend . "

“ We had a lovely stay. Prosseco in the fridge when we arrived. The house was lovely, peaceful and private. Beautiful view out the back. We love the Manifold valley, Leek (great interesting, historical walk around Leek we got from the tourist info - especially the church) and Stafforshire and will be visiting again. The books in the cottage with mapped walks of the Peaks were very helpful as were Bern's suggestions of where to visit. We enjoyed the local walk (info left in the cottage as a map and directions) for guests to do if they wished. The instructions in the folder were very clear and helpful too. Very warm, snug cottage even on the rainiest of days. We loved their dogs, horses, sheep and chickens wandering about - Thanks. "

“  Fantastic cosy cottage
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
A very warm welcome from the owners nothing being any bother. The cottage itself is well equipped and very comfortable. There is pleasant enclosed seating area front and rear of the building which is great if like us you have dogs. The views from one of these areas are fantastic. The location itself is very quiet however you are not far from all the Peak District has to offer. There are a number of country pubs are within a short drive and larger stores in the local town of Leek We loved it, our week flew by. . "

Kayleigh - June 2018

“ This was a lovely little cottage with beautiful views across the countryside. Very kind and accommodating hosts. Be prepared for being secluded - the nearest convenience store we found was a 20 minute drive away down slow narrow country lanes. But don't let this put you off - the seclusion means the countryside is vast and unspoiled, with miles of romantic meanderings to be had. Be sure to check out Buxton, Matlock, the Heights of Abraham, and a pub we found called "the Cheshire cheese" in Longnor that does a pork and apple burger to die for. "

“ Cute cottage attached to main homestead on quiet farm with easy access to nearby villages. Nic and Bern were lovely no-fuss hosts and their recommendations for the area, plus lots of books in the cottage, were valuable for our 3 night stay in the District. Would absolutely stay again. "
